Phantom of the Opera giftset of Mattel’s Ken and Barbie as The Phantom and Christine, based off the designs for the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. This set was issued in 1998 as an exclusive special run by now-defunct high-end toy retailer FAO Schwartz. The Phantom Ken has a removable mask and his unique headsculpt incorporates the original deformity into the mold, and one light blue eye, and one darker eye. The original retail price was $150, and many can still be found today on the secondary market, though often for higher prices.
“And I fell at her feet, crying …and I kissed her feet…her little feet…crying. You’re crying, too, daroga…and she cried also…the angel cried!… Yes, daroga…I felt her tears flow on my forehead…on mine, mine!…They were soft…they were sweet!”
- Gaston Leroux, Le Fantôme de l’Opéra [x]
